Image
The Best HIV and AIDS Nonprofits of 2019. We want to learn from history and create a better future for the next generation. Justice for all is our motto that underpins all the HIV Response Programme we implement across the country. We believe justice cannot wait. Please help us deliver care and support services to the most marginalised and stigmatised sections of the society. The situation of HIV AIDS in India is serious with the spread no longer confined to high risk groups alone. Donate HIV-End AIDS India Our words are as important as our actions. Let's correct our tendency to use derogatory language towards certain groups in our society. Let's be mindful of how we describe or speak about a section of our community. Spread love, not hatred. Human #respect and #dignity is our birthright. People living with HIV not only fight against HIV but also fight #stigma and #discrimination. Their fight is our fight. Your support is needed to end HIV, to end discrimination....

Why ZERO Discrimination is Crucial To Ending AIDS in India?

Image
“Within a year into my marriage, my husband fell ill and quickly became bedridden. He was diagnosed with HIV and AIDS . My health was normal at that time but in the routine spouse test, I too tested HIV positive. I didn’t know much about HIV except that it is a deadly disease. I was young and terrified. Instead of supporting me, my husband and his family began abusing me. They blamed me for infecting my husband. They started questioning my character. Eventually, they literally kicked me out of the house and I had no choice but to return to my parents”, says Dimple who was rejected by her in-laws for no fault of hers. Another young mother says, “I was neglected and denied of proper care by healthcare workers during the birth of my second child because of my HIV status. It is the deepest pain that I live with that I couldn’t protect my child from getting infected with HIV.” Discrimination of any form and in any place is a violation of human rights and a barrier to achieving a ...

The Ban Karo Syndrome-End AIDS India

Image
Lately, India is caught up in reacting with ‘ban Karo’ to anything and everything that remotely hurts our pride or disrupts our viewpoints. Ban on certain websites, ban on meat, ban on films, ban this ban that the list goes on. As a person working in the health sector to empower people living with HIV, I would like to briefly talk about the ban on condom TV ads from airing from 10 pm to 6 am. This invariably means limited exposure and reach for the ads and especially during prime time. The condom ads were considered indecent for the viewing of children. On the surface it seems a well-meaning prohibition, however, if we look at the ban in context of few other facts about India such as its bloating population and a worrisome number of annual abortions – it is evident how little India knows or practices safe-sex. According to an article written in 2016 in India Spend 10 million women secretly undergo abortion every year in India, 80% of them at home. ...

From Heartbroken To A Heart Filled With Love: Story of Amruta Soni

Image
Amruta Soni didn’t have an easy life. However, she did not lose hope, each time she chose to overcome the challenges and build a respectful life. She started her career with an active involvement with non-profit organizations , today, she is a well-known activist and social worker in Darbhanga district, Bihar. She is often invited to various forums as a speaker and takes lead in implementing HIV response programmers in Darbhanga district. Amruta, like many of us, had a desire for a family and children. She did get married to the love of her life but unfortunately, her happiness was short-lived as she and her husband parted ways after being married for a few years. Among other reasons, the biggest reason why her marriage ended was that she could not bear children. It was not something her husband was not aware but knowing that Amruta could never have children, he drifted away from her. Amruta was heartbroken, however, life had the biggest surprise for her just...

HIV and Celebrities

Image
HIV and Celebrities We open Instagram and first thing on our feed is celebrities promoting different brand product which lure us to purchase them just because of the charisma of celeb who is now attached with that brand. Shah Rukh Khan himself tauntingly said that his movies run because he’s Shah Rukh Khan. Being Human is a must have for every Salman Khan fan ever – real or fake hardly matters. Apart from all the branding, there is also something selfless that celebrities do – care for others. We decided to search for celebrities who support our cause and guess what we found, there are quite a good number of female celebrities who contribute significantly to save the world from HIV, including few from our own Bollywood. HIV is a term that is wrapped in a lot of stigma and a lot of myths. There are a many celebrities that are helping the world unwrap that stigma. Madonna has been fighting the war against HIV since the days when HIV...

A 40-year old husband and father living with HIV, Gnanendra has moved from despair at his diagnosis to pride at helping reduce the incidence of HIV infection in his slum.
